Home    2018 Favorites Cities to Live and Retire in Arizona

The Southwest region has increasingly become a sought after destination with its warm weather conditions paired with so much allure. In fact, Arizona as a state, has been a rapidly emerging hot destination from all areas of the country and even ranked amongst the top 10 for attracting people from other states.

But just like any other state, there is an over abundance of cities to choose from. It’s understandable if you’re not sure which Arizona city is right for you – – especially for retiring.

Here is a list of some of our favorite cities whether it’s time for a new scene or time to settle into a more suitable community.

Sun City

Not only is Sun City one of the first active adult communities in the world, it’s also the most famous. Best known for its 8 golf courses, 3 country clubs, Viewpoint Lake, and the Sun Bowl, there is always a fun activity to take part in alone or with friends. With Phoenix right around the corner (proximity of approximately 15 miles), this makes it a fantastic choice for those that want all of the activities while being close to the capital city.

Mesa

Due to its reasonable and comfortable weather temperatures during winter, it’s a popular hot spot for “snowbirds” who come from places with not so forgiving winters. Similar to Sun City, the proximity to Phoenix is close enough (18-20 miles) for it to be accessible but far away enough to avoid the downtown city traffic. Mesa offers beautiful local parks, special attractions, museums, community festivals, and a variety of sports facilities that cater to any age.

Scottsdale

Don’t be intimidated by the city’s luxurious charm. Although the city offers various amenities from picturesque hiking trails, exciting nightclubs, relaxing spas, and all types of entertainment, it also offers a quiet and secluded vibe depending on which pocket you settle in. It’s no wonder the retirement community here is generous with over 28% of the city’s residents aged 60 or older. Additionally, Scottsdale was deemed one of the top 10 best places to retire in 2015.

Fountain Hills

In addition to being known for its impressive fountain (it is deemed to be the fourth largest fountain in the world), it’s a beautiful and quaint city (est. population of 22,000) that offers both serene and peaceful energies. The views alone are breathtaking. In fact, almost every home has a view of the calming desert or the picture perfect McDowell Mountains. If you’re looking for a home that is a relaxing getaway in itself, this might be the city for you!
